DAZED MUSIC & CULTURE

Dazed is one of the most culturally authoritative youth publications in the world, operating at the intersection of fashion, music, art, and identity since 1991.

Editorial work for Dazed spanned hip hop, music culture, and cultural commentary across multiple years and multiple cultural moments. The pattern across every piece was the same — identifying cultural figures and movements before their peak and giving them language before the mainstream arrived.

The rude gal rappers’ piece published in February 2018 profiled Rico Nasty, Kash Doll, and a cohort of bold confrontational female rappers reshaping hip hop's gender dynamics before their mainstream breakthrough. Rico Nasty signed to Atlantic Records shortly after. The piece was named the wave before the industry caught up.

The ATCQ piece for Dazed 93 covered A Tribe Called Quest at their Wireless Festival reunion, connecting Midnight Marauders to the cultural weight of their legacy at a moment when the mainstream was only beginning to rediscover their significance.

The Gonjasufi piece traced the story behind the final track on Jay-Z's Magna Carta Holy Grail, mapping the connective tissue between hip hop's commercial peak and its underground roots.
